2's and 3's (Tuesdays and Thursdays)

The day begins with many opportunities for side by side play and/or interactive play and exploration in the Free Choice Room. Students can choose from many activities including painting at the art table, climbing up to the "kitchen" loft for imaginative games, building creations from the magnetic building blocks, or playing with the fleet of toy trucks. Snack Time follows after toy pick-up and hand-washing. The teacher usually reads a great story book to the students while they munch their snacks.
After snack time, the students move to the music room for organized "group" activities such as drumming on drums to the music, or marching, skipping and hopping along with a CD. The class then heads to the Backyard or the Front Porch (depending on weather) for some serious outdoor play: slides, sandboxes, the "fort," an amphitheatre, a play house, all await some activity. Finally, the students prepare for the end of the day back in the Music Room where they engage in various directed stimulating activities: puzzle building, play/pretend cooking, or fun with alphabet toys, blocks, dolls or Lego toys. Finally the teacher reads another book to the class before the students get to choose their own book for exploration.
