Parent Involvement

The Creative Learning Center believes that parents are a vital part of the child’s education experience. Our program is a modified parent cooperative. As such, during the school year we would like for each family to:
* Spend 16 hours or 4 days for one child (24 hours or 6 days for 2 children) as a classroom helper and
* Spend 3 hours doing workday activities on the playground or inside the building.
These are days when you will come to school during school hours and work to support the functioning of the school. The classroom helper days might involve helping directly with the children, but it might also involve weeding the garden, or filling the napkin bin, or cleaning toys. Please realize how valuable your help with these "non-glamorous" tasks are! Consider this as an opportunity to demonstrate, for your child and all of the children, the value you place on teamwork and the importance of rolling up the sleeves and pitching in! Workdays are to help set up our outdoor learning environment, do other improvements to make the children’s environment like a “Third Teacher” in the Reggio Emilia approach.

Parents can also choose to serve on the PARENTS COUNCIL, which helps plan events throughout the year. Mothers, fathers, grandparents, caregivers, and teachers work side-by-side to provide the best possible learning experience. It is our firm belief that parent involvement not only benefits the child, but also provides parents with much needed support and challenging interactions that help to reframe preconceived notions about parenting, behavioral issues, and setting educational goals for their child.
The Creative Learning Center staff and administrators are committed to interacting in a respectful and thoughtful manner with all of our parents, with the intention of making the experience beneficial for all involved. Parents have the opportunity to schedule a conference with teachers at any point throughout the year.
If you are unable to work classroom hours, we are flexible. Exceptions can be granted on a case by case basis. There are many ways you can be involved if parent helper days in the classroom do not work for your family.
